This Privacy Policy explains how YTScript ("we", "us") collects, uses and shares information when you use https://ytscript.app (the "Site"). YTScript operates the Site and is responsible for the personal information described in this policy (the "data controller"). If you have questions, contact us at contact@ytscript.app.
Summary
- You do not need an account to use the Site, and we do not ask for your name, email address or password to use the tools.
- When you paste a YouTube link, our server fetches the public captions for that video, shows you the transcript, and keeps a temporary cached copy so repeat requests are fast.
- Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the Site.
- We use cookies for essential functions and, with your consent where required, for analytics and advertising (including Google AdSense).
- You can refuse non-essential cookies, opt out of personalised ads, and exercise your privacy rights by contacting us.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Video links. When you submit a YouTube URL or video ID, we receive that link and the caption language you choose.
- Text you enter into tools. Topics you type into the title, tag, description, name or idea generators are sent to our server to produce results.
- Messages to us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
We do not require registration and we do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data. Please do not include sensitive personal information in tool inputs or messages.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Technical and log data. Like most websites, our servers and our hosting provider automatically receive data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you request, and the date and time of each request. This is used to deliver the Site, keep it secure, prevent abuse and diagnose errors.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See section 4.
1.3 Information processed only in your browser
The subtitle tools (for example SRT to VTT, SRT to TXT, SRT to ASS, LRC to SRT, Open SRT File) and the video splitter run entirely in your browser. Files you open in these tools are not uploaded to our servers.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- fetch the public captions of the video you request and return the transcript, downloads (TXT, SRT, VTT) and summaries;
- cache transcripts temporarily so the same video loads quickly for you and other users;
- operate, maintain and improve the Site, including fixing errors and measuring which features are used;
- protect the Site against abuse, automated scraping and attacks, including rate limiting;
- show advertising and measure its performance;
- respond to your messages and requests, including copyright and privacy requests;
- comply with legal obligations.
3. Video content and transcripts
Transcripts are built from captions that the video owner or YouTube has made publicly available. We do not download or store the video itself. Cached transcripts are tied to the video, not to you, and are kept for up to 7 days before they expire. We do not keep a history of which videos an individual visitor has looked up.
Summaries. Summaries are generated from the transcript. Where an AI provider is enabled, the transcript text is sent to a third-party AI model provider to produce the summary, under that provider's terms. Otherwise the summary is generated on our own server. We do not send your IP address or other identifiers to the AI provider as part of the request content.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use:
- Strictly necessary cookies and storage, which make the Site work and remember choices such as your cookie preferences. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics cookies (only with consent where required), provided by a third-party analytics provider, to count visits and understand how pages are used.
- Advertising cookies (only with consent where required), used to show ads, limit how often you see an ad, and measure ad performance.
You can change your choices at any time through the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer or by deleting cookies in your browser settings. Refusing non-essential cookies does not limit any of the tools.
4.1 Advertising and Google
We use Google AdSense to show ads. In connection with this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com
- You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at https://www.aboutads.info/choices (United States) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu (European Economic Area and United Kingdom).
If you opt out of personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised ads.
4.2 Consent
Where the law requires consent (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), we use a consent management platform to ask for your permission before setting analytics or advertising cookies, and we pass your choice to Google and other vendors.
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Swiss users)
We process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure and improve the Site, prevent abuse and keep server logs;
- Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies, and personalised ads; you can withdraw consent at any time;
- Performance of a request / contract — to provide the transcript or tool output you asked for and to reply to your messages;
- Legal obligation — where we must keep or disclose information by law.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only with:
- Hosting and infrastructure providers — Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the Site and processes request data (including IP addresses) to deliver, cache and protect it;
- Advertising and analytics partners — Google and other vendors described in section 4, subject to your choices;
- AI provider — a third-party AI model provider, only for transcript text when generating summaries;
- YouTube — our server requests public caption data from YouTube to build your transcript;
- Authorities or others — when required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
7. Data retention
- Cached transcripts: up to 7 days, then deleted automatically.
- Server and security logs (including IP addresses), held by us or our hosting provider: up to 30 days, unless needed longer to investigate abuse.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to handle your request, and then deleted unless we need to keep them for legal reasons.
- Cookies: for the periods described in our consent tool or set by the relevant vendor.
8. International transfers
Our providers operate globally, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
9. Your rights
9.1 EEA, UK and Swiss users
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
9.2 California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used and disclosed; to request deletion or correction; to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising; to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect it); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The categories we may collect are identifiers (such as IP address), internet activity (such as pages viewed) and inferences used for advertising. You can opt out of sharing for personalised advertising through the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer, and we honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where supported.
9.3 How to make a request
Email contact@ytscript.app with the subject "Privacy request" and describe what you would like us to do. Because we do not have accounts, we may ask for information that helps us locate the data concerned (for example the approximate time and IP address of your visit). We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
10. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
12. Third-party links
The Site links to and embeds content from third parties such as YouTube. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, for example the Google Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, provide a more prominent notice on the Site.
14. Contact
Questions or requests about this policy: contact@ytscript.app.
