M4A to Text

Upload an audio or video file and get the text back. Files are forwarded to the configured speech-to-text provider and never stored.

File transcription is not switched on yet, so you cannot upload a file here for now. Transcripts from YouTube videos work today and need no file.

M4A is what iPhones and most voice-recording apps produce, which makes it the format most personal recordings arrive in. This page takes an M4A file and returns the spoken content as text.

Upload the file and the transcript comes back ready to copy or download. It is the same speech-to-text path the other audio pages use, applied to the container your phone happens to write.

Frequently asked questions

What is an M4A file?
An audio container — usually AAC audio inside an MP4 wrapper — used by Apple devices and most recording apps. It is the default for iPhone voice memos.
Do I need to convert it to MP3 first?
No. The file is decoded directly, so converting to another format first would only add a step and lose a little quality.
Can I record directly on this page?
No. This page takes an existing file. Record with your phone or computer first, then upload the result.
How accurate is the transcript?
Accuracy tracks audio quality and how clearly the speaker enunciates. Names, acronyms, and technical terms are the usual weak spots, as with any speech recognition.
Is the file stored?
No. It is passed to the speech-to-text provider for recognition and not kept by this site.
