MP3 to Text
Upload an audio or video file and get the text back. Files are forwarded to the configured speech-to-text provider and never stored.
File transcription is not switched on yet, so you cannot upload a file here for now. Transcripts from YouTube videos work today and need no file.
This page turns an MP3 into text. Upload the audio and the spoken content comes back as a transcript you can read, copy, and search — useful for interviews, voice memos, lectures, and any recording where the words matter more than the sound.
Speech-to-text for audio files is a heavier operation than reading a video's existing captions, because the audio has to be listened to rather than looked up. That is why this page asks for a file rather than a link, and why it takes longer than the YouTube pages do.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does an MP3 take to transcribe?
- It depends on the length of the recording and the speech-to-text provider in use. Unlike the YouTube pages, which read captions that already exist, audio has to be recognised from scratch.
- What quality of audio do I need?
- Clear speech matters more than bitrate. A phone recording of one person talking in a quiet room transcribes far better than a noisy room recording, however high the bitrate.
- Can it tell speakers apart?
- No. The transcript is a continuous record of what was said, not a labelled conversation. Separating speakers is a different and much harder problem.
- Is my audio kept?
- It is sent to the speech-to-text provider to be recognised and is not retained by this site. If you are handling sensitive recordings, check which provider is configured before uploading.
- What if the recording is in another language?
- Recognition works best when the language is known in advance. If the page offers a language choice, set it — accuracy drops noticeably when the wrong language is assumed.
