Video Splitter
Convert subtitle files right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored.
About this converter
Clips a section out of a video entirely in your browser using the MediaRecorder API. Nothing is uploaded; the clip is written straight to your downloads.
This splits a video into shorter pieces. It is for the ordinary problem of a long recording that needs to become several clips — a lecture you want to publish in parts, a stream you need to cut down, or a file that is simply too long to handle in one piece.
Everything happens in your browser, so the video is not uploaded and you are not waiting on a transfer. Choose how you want it divided and the pieces come back as separate files.

Frequently asked questions
- Is my video uploaded to a server?
- No. The splitting runs locally in your browser, so a large file does not have to travel anywhere first and nothing is stored on our side.
- What formats can I split?
- Formats your browser can decode — MP4 and WebM are the safe ones. If a file will not open, the container is probably one the browser cannot read rather than a problem with the page.
- Does splitting re-encode the video?
- Cutting on keyframes avoids re-encoding and keeps quality, but not every cut lands on one. Where it cannot, the piece is re-encoded, which takes longer and can lose a little quality.
- How large a file can it handle?
- It depends on your machine's memory rather than on us, since the work is local. Very large files are better split on a desktop than a phone.
- Can I split by time rather than by size?
- Yes — split into equal parts or set the segment length, depending on how you want the pieces to come out.
