Video to Transcript
Upload an audio or video file and get the text back. Files are forwarded to the configured speech-to-text provider and never stored.
File transcription is not switched on yet, so you cannot upload a file here for now. Transcripts from YouTube videos work today and need no file.
A video file in, a transcript out. This page exists for the case where you need a written record of a video you already have — for notes, for subtitles, for searching, or for quoting accurately.
The transcript keeps the order of speech and, where timing is available, when each part was said. Nothing is summarised: it is a record, not a précis.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between a transcript and subtitles?
- They can be the same text. A transcript is for reading; subtitles are the same lines formatted with timings for display on video. This page gives you the text, which can be turned into subtitles.
- Can I search the transcript?
- Yes — it is text on the page, so your browser's find works on it. That is often the fastest way to locate one moment in a long recording.
- How do I fix names it got wrong?
- Edit the text. Speech recognition reliably struggles with proper nouns and jargon, and correcting those by hand is quicker than trying to improve the source audio after the fact.
- Does it work for videos without speech?
- No. Music videos and silent footage have nothing to recognise, and the transcript will come back empty or nearly so.
- Is my video uploaded?
- Its audio is, to the speech-to-text provider. The file is not retained by this site.
