SRT to ASS

About this converter
ASS carries styling that SRT cannot. This produces an Advanced SubStation Alpha file with a readable default style that opens in VLC, mpv and Aegisub.
ASS is the subtitle format that carries styling: fonts, colours, positioning, and karaoke-style effects. It is what fansub groups and many video editors work in. SRT carries none of that, so this conversion produces a clean, readable ASS file with sensible default styling that you can then adjust.
The text and timings come through unchanged; what you gain is a file the styling-capable tools will open and a structure you can apply a house style to. If you only need subtitles to display, SRT or VTT is simpler — ASS is worth it when appearance matters.

Frequently asked questions
- What does ASS give me that SRT does not?
- Styling. ASS files define fonts, sizes, colours, outlines, and on-screen position per cue, and they support effects. SRT is plain text with timecodes and no presentation information at all.
- Will the converted file look styled already?
- It gets a readable default style rather than nothing, but it is a starting point. Applying your own fonts and positioning is a normal next step in a tool like Aegisub.
- Are the timings preserved?
- Yes, cue for cue. Only the presentation layer is added.
- Which players can open ASS?
- VLC and mpv handle it well, and most subtitle editors do. Browser video players generally cannot — for the web you want VTT instead.
- Is the conversion done locally?
- Yes, in your browser. The file is not uploaded anywhere.
