WAV to Text

Upload an audio or video file and get the text back. Files are forwarded to the configured speech-to-text provider and never stored.

File transcription is not switched on yet, so you cannot upload a file here for now. Transcripts from YouTube videos work today and need no file.

WAV is uncompressed audio — the format you get from a proper recorder, an interview mic, or anything where quality was the priority. This page turns a WAV file into text.

Because the audio is uncompressed, recognition has the best possible source to work from, though WAV files are large and take longer to upload. Upload the file and the transcript comes back.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my WAV file so large?
WAV stores audio uncompressed, so a minute of stereo audio can run to ten megabytes or more. That is the trade for having no compression artefacts.
Does uncompressed audio transcribe better?
Marginally, and only if the recording itself is clean. Room noise, distance from the microphone, and overlapping speech hurt accuracy far more than compression does.
Can I upload a very long WAV file?
Large files take longer to send. If the recording is hours long, consider splitting it — and note that most speech-to-text providers bill or limit by duration.
Does it handle multi-channel audio?
Stereo is fine. Recordings with many channels may need to be mixed down first, since recognition expects ordinary playback audio.
Is the file kept?
No. It is sent for recognition and not retained by this site.
