Transcribe Audio to Text

Upload an audio or video file and get the text back. Files are forwarded to the configured speech-to-text provider and never stored.

File transcription is not switched on yet, so you cannot upload a file here for now. Transcripts from YouTube videos work today and need no file.

Upload an audio file and get its spoken content back as text. This is the general-purpose audio transcription page — interviews, meetings, lectures, voice notes, anything you have as a file and need as words.

The result is a transcript you can copy, search, and edit. Nothing about the audio is preserved beyond the text, so what you take away is the content rather than the recording.

Frequently asked questions

Which audio formats can I upload?
The common ones — MP3, M4A, WAV, and whatever else your browser can decode. If a file is rejected, its container is probably one the browser cannot read.
How is this different from the YouTube pages?
Those read captions the video already has, so they are near-instant. Audio files have no captions, so the speech has to be recognised, which takes longer and depends on a speech-to-text provider being configured.
Can I get a timestamped transcript?
Yes, where the provider returns timing information. That lets you jump back to the moment something was said rather than hunting through the text.
What about background music or noise?
Both reduce accuracy. Speech recognition works best on clean speech, and a recording with music under it will produce more errors than the same speech alone.
Is my recording private?
The file is sent to the configured speech-to-text provider for recognition. It is not retained by this site, but the provider does process it — worth knowing before uploading anything confidential.
